Prof. Michael Cardew-Hall
Chair

Emeritus Professor Michael Cardew-Hall PhD, BSc(Hons), CEng, FIMechE, FIEAust is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Institution of Engineers Australia. Prior to joining Australian National University (ANU) in 1993, he held technical and management positions with GEC and Rolls-Royce Aero Engines in the UK. Michael has also been an active researcher, with much of his work carried out in collaboration with industry partners.

Following 11 years at ANU as Pro-Vice Chancellor-Innovation, Michael has an ongoing interest in technology transfer, commercialisation and industrial policy and has been involved in multiple spinoff start-up companies. He has served as a Director of the Australian Solar Institute, Lithicon AS, Simile Systems and Cicada Innovations and is Chair of the Board of Australian Scientific Instruments, the Social Research Centre Pty Ltd and a member of the Significant Capital Ventures investment committee.

He was previously CEO of ANU Connect Ventures (ANUCV), a pre-seed venture capital fund associated with ANU, and is currently Chair of the Board of ANUCV and a member of the investment committee. Michael’s other previous roles include Head of ANU’s Department of Engineering, Deputy Dean, and Acting Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
